WHERE IS THE POETRY SLAM HELD?
Every third Friday of the month, the slam is hosted at:
Richmond Hood Company
827 Castleton Ave,
Staten Island, NY
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Everyone is welcome to watch or participate.
Sign up for the open mic starts at 8pm, and the event starts at 8:45. After the open mic, the battle begins.
All events are BYOB.
RULES FOR THE SLAM:
1. No props or music
2. Poem cannot be longer than 3:10. If it is, we start deducting points from your score.
3. Your time starts when you address the audience or introduce your poem, so please keep that in mind when you get on stage.
4. There will be 3 rounds and they will go like this:

8 poets first round
5 poets second round
3 poets final round
We ask for a $3-5 suggested cash donation at the start, in order to support our poets and community, and, again, our events are BYOB!

Originally called the Advanced Poetry Slam, Life:Vest:Poetry's monthly slams began in April 2015 after Tariq Zaid, the co-founder of Richmond Hood Company, agreed to host the monthly series. Since then, Life:Vest has expanded throughout Staten Island establishing regular literary series such as "Who Needs Healing" hosted by
been committed to serving the Staten Island literary community, hosting monthly shows and helping support SI-based poets and writers build an audience and practice their craft.
